The National Māori Wardens Authority are the overarching body responsible for all Māori Wardens within Aotearoa New Zealand.

At the National Māori Wardens Authority, our mission is to empower, unify, and strengthen Māori communities by promoting and upholding the values of aroha (compassion), whanaungatanga (community), and manaakitanga (hospitality) through the dedicated service of our Māori Wardens.

The National Māori Wardens Authority seeks to forge relationships with government, government agencies and to foster and grow existing Māori Warden relationships by forming collective working groups to advance the kaupapa and our mission.

The National Māori Wardens Authority is dedicated to empowering and supporting Māori communities through the New Zealand Māori Wardens, promoting social harmony, safety, and well-being. We aim to strengthen the cultural identity, values, and aspirations of Māori Wardens by providing effective governance, resources, and guidance.

AROHA KI TE TANGATA

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL PEOPLE

Māori Wardens are volunteers who provide a safety presence on the Marae, at events and in the wider community. The Māori Community Development Act 1962 empowers District Māori Councils and the Minister of Māori Development to appoint Māori Wardens who work towards the prevention of unruly behaviour in public places. There are over 2000 Māori Wardens throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
